William B. Goetz (March 24, 1903 – August 15, 1969) was an American film producer and studio executive. Goetz was one of the founders of Twentieth Century Pictures, and later served as vice president of 20th Century Fox after the studio's merger with the Fox Film Company.
Goetz terminated his production company in 1961 after making the Glenn Ford service comedy Cry for Happy (1961), but he came out of retirement in 1964 to take the job of vice president at Seven Arts Productions Ltd., a Canadian-controlled production and distribution corporation. Production. Prior to The Man from Laramie, James Stewart and Anthony Mann had worked together on six films beginning in 1950. Stewart, impressed by Mann's work on the then-unreleased Devil's Doorway, had personally selected him to direct Winchester '73 after Fritz Lang left the production.
