John Stepan Zamecnik (May 14, 1872 in Cleveland, Ohio – June 13, 1953 in Los Angeles, California) was an American composer and conductor. He is best known for the " photoplay music " he composed for use during silent films by pianists, organists, and orchestras.
John Stepan Zamecnik (pronounced zam -ish-nick) was a first generation American born in Ohio of Bohemian (now Czech Republic) parents Josef "Joseph" Zamecnik and Catherine "Kate" Hrubecky. His parents arrived in New York on May 26, 1870 with his older sisters Catherine and Anna.
ZAMECNIK, JOHN S. (1872-13 June 1953) utilized his experience as a Cleveland theater musician to become a pioneer in the scoring of Hollywood film music. A native Clevelander, he was the son of Bohemian immigrants Joseph and Katherine Zamecnik.
