The nominees for the 65th Academy Awards were announced on February 17, 1993, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, by Robert Rehme, president of the academy, and actress Mercedes Ruehl.
Spielberg also triumphed in the same year with three technical-achievement awards for his box-office hit Jurassic Park: Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects. Four of the five Best Picture nominees were serious-minded films.
