Born in Brody, Galicia, Kober was raised in New York, which forms the scene of his amusing books about Jewish life, including Thunder over the Bronx (1935), My Dear Bella (1941; published in England as Parm Me, 1945), Bella, Bella, Kissed a Fella (1951), and Ooh, What You Said! (1958).
