Sunil Shanbag (born 1956) is an Indian theatre director, screenwriter and documentary film-maker. He has graduated from Mumbai University , and although he didn't have any formal training in theatre, he has worked extensively with Satyadev Dubey , [1] who considers him one of his foremost protégés.
Sunil Shanbag has been in theatre for over three decades. He has directed and produced many plays for TheatreArpana. He is also involved in using theatre training techniques in education and training.
This grant will enable theatre director Sunil Shanbag to undertake preparatory research towards a theatre production tentatively titled, ‘Who Says No? Sakharam Nam Ka Ek Vag’. Sunil, along with a researcher and a dramaturg, will investigate the relationship of censorship to theatre practices.
Sunil Shanbag, a theatre director and producer based in Mumbai, has co-founded and serves as the artistic director of both Theatre Arpana and Tamaasha Theatre. With over 35 years of experience, he has explored and showcased the intricate complexities of contemporary India through various genres of theatre, including alternative spaces.
