Riccardo Freda (24 February 1909 – 20 December 1999) was an Italian film director. He worked in a variety of genres, including sword-and-sandal, horror, giallo and spy films. Freda began directing I Vampiri in 1956. The film became the first Italian sound horror film production.

He began a career in film in 1937 as a screenwriter and production supervisor. He moved into directing in 1942, beginning a career that lasted some 40 years.

Riccardo Freda was an Italian film director. Freda films ranged in various genres from Sword-and-Sandal, Horror, Giallo and Eurospy Movies. Freda began directing I Vampiri in 1956 but left the production midway to have it completed by Mario Bava.The film became the first Italian sound horror film production.
