Sanford I. "Sandy" Weill ( / waɪl /; born March 16, 1933) is an American banker, financier and philanthropist. [1] [2] He is a former chief executive and chairman of Citigroup. He served in those positions from 1998 until October 1, 2003, and April 18, 2006, respectively.

Sanford I. Weill (born March 16, 1933, Brooklyn, N.Y., U.S.) is an American financier and philanthropist whose company, Travelers Group, merged with Citicorp to form Citigroup in 1998—the largest merger in history at the time.
After a storied 50-year career on Wall Street, he retired as CEO of Citigroup in 2003 and retired as non-executive Chairman in 2006. Weill was the recipient of Financial World Magazine’s CEO of the Year Award in 1998 and received the same honor from Chief Executive Magazine in 2002.
