Patrick Douglas Selmes Jackson (26 March 1916 – 3 June 2011) was an English film and television director. [1] Biography. Born in Eltham, [2] to a formerly affluent family which was severely affected by the Wall Street Crash in 1929, and his father's long-term illness and early death ending Jackson's formal education. [3] .
Pat Jackson was a versatile and talented filmmaker who worked on Night Mail, London Can Take It, and Western Approaches during the war. He also made White Corridors, a hospital drama that integrated non-professionals and actors, but his career declined after Hollywood.

Pat Jackson began as an editor and co-director of documentaries with the famed GPO Film Unit in the mid-1930s. He worked with such icons of the documentary field as John Grierson and Harry Watt, but it was his World War II semi-documentary Western Approaches (1944) that put him on the map.

Pat Jackson. Director. 26 March 1916 to 2 June 2011. After gaining experience with the GPO Film Unit – later the Crown Film Unit – Jackson scored a great critical hit with his documentary style drama about the heroism of merchant seamen in wartime, Western Approaches (1944).
