Dembo Konte (or Konté) (died January 2014) [1] and Kausu Kuyateh (died 16 June 2018) [2] were master kora players from West Africa. They were also singers and, above all, jalis; storytellers and guardians of oral tradition, preserving the history of people and events via their music.
In late 1989 during one of their regular high- profile tours of Britain, Dembo Konte and Kausu Kuyateh got together with members of the nigh-legendary 3Mustaphas3, English folk/rock accordeon maestro John Kirkpatrick, slide guitarist Ian Anderson and Sierra Leone guitar king Abdul Tee-Jay to produce the extraordinary Jali Roll.

The artists in question are West African kora masters Dembo Konte and Kausu Kutayeh plus the 3 Mustaphas 3--English folk-rock accordeonist John Kirkpatrick, slide guitarist (and editor of Folk Roots magazine) Ian Anderson and the Sierra Leonian guitarist Abdul ("One Take") Tee-Jay.
