In this tutorial, you configure Visual Studio Code to use the GCC C++ compiler (g++) and GDB debugger from mingw-w64 to create programs that run on Windows. After configuring VS Code, you will compile, run, and debug a Hello World program. This tutorial does not teach you about GCC, GDB, minGW-w64, or the C++ language.
By default, VS Code is installed under C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Programs\Microsoft VS Code. Alternatively, you can also download a Zip archive, extract it and run Code from there. Tip: Setup will add Visual Studio Code to your %PATH%, so from the console you can type 'code .' to open VS Code on that folder.
VS Code is now configured to use the Microsoft C++ compiler. The configuration applies to the current workspace. To reuse the configuration, just copy the JSON files to a .vscode folder in a new project folder (workspace) and change the names of the source file (s) and executable as needed.
