The band released a self-titled LP in 1968 and two charting singles, "The Muffin Man" and "King Croesus", before fading into relative obscurity. The Land of Oz is a magical country introduced in the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow . Illustrations from several books, movies, television programs, and plays are included. Oz is entirely cut off from the rest of the world and surrounded on all four sides by a vast desert, which insulates the citizens of Oz known as "Ozians" safe from discovery and invasion. Furthermore, after the Nomes gathered several other evil races to invade and destroy Oz to no success, Glinda surrounded the land with a magical barrier that makes Oz invisible to the outside world.
Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an absolute and delightful classic. The Emerald City of Oz was the halfway mark though the books that Baum wrote and, although interesting, lacks any real depth. Glinda of Oz has moments, but for me the most interesting bit involved secondary characters and was far too brief.
