Umashankar Jethalal Joshi (pronunciation ⓘ) (21 July 1911 – 19 December 1988) was an Indian poet, scholar and writer known for his contributions to Gujarati literature. He wrote most of his works in Gujarati.
Umashankar Joshi was born in Bamna, Sabarkantha in Gujarat in 1911. He dropped out of college at the age of 19 to join Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha. He also wrote extensively since an early age, as a means to express his nationalist spirit and his understanding of the society and share them with his readers.
