Akash made his debut with the Shyam Benegal movie Kalyug in 1981, and has since appeared in around 60 feature films, primarily in character roles. As a screenwriter, he is best known for co-writing the Shah Rukh Khan starrers Baazigar (1993) and Duplicate (1998), the former of which won him a Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay in 1994.
