Dorothea Gillim is a writer and producer, best known for creating WordGirl and everything in it. She also co-developed the series with writer and voice actor, Jack D. Ferraiolo.

Gillim created the show in part because she believed many children's shows often underestimate the intelligence of a child, and she wanted to make WordGirl something where parents would support their children in learning.

"Part of my mission is to make kids' television smart and funny. I feel as though we've lost some ground there, in an effort to make it more accessible. WordGirl's focus is on great stories, characters, and animation. If all those elements are working, then you can hook a child who may come looking for laughs but leave a little smarter." Gillim quoted.

She was also executive producer of Seasons 1 & 2 from 2007-2009 alongside Deborah Forte. She later stepped down from being executive produce and left Deborah Forte to take on the job by herself.

Even though she never wrote any episodes herself, she was involved in the show as producer by giving creative input for each episode, lending a hand to the writers with the stories like a lot of other well known people have done for projects.

Along with WordGirl, she was also producer of Curious George, and Pinkalicious and Peterrific and Molly of Denali.

•In an interview, Gillim commented that her favorite part about WordGirl is when they depict WordGirl's struggles and conflicts of trying to balance her life as a normal girl and her life as a superhero.

•She also commented that her favorite word is cake, not only because it's her favorite food, but also because of the way it sounds as well.
