Lorient34 7 8 19 29 Brest is located amidst a dramatic landscape near the entrance of the natural rade de Brest (Brest roadstead), at the west end of Brittany. It is situated to the north of a magnificent landlocked bay, and occupies the slopes of two hills divided by the river Penfeld.
Brest, formerly Brest-Litovsk and Brest-on-the-Bug, is a city in Belarus at the border with Poland opposite the Polish town of Terespol, where the Bug and Mukhavets rivers meet, making it a border town.
Brest is first and foremost a large port, tucked within a bay beside the Atlantic coast. The bombings of 1944 left the city in ruins, but it has been rebuilt in a fascinating show of modernist, neoclassical, Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture.
