Apr 8, 2022 · The Mullaperiyar dam issue is a longstanding dispute between two Indian states - Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The dam is located in Kerala’s Idukki district on the Periyar river. It is a masonry gravity dam. It was constructed between 1887 and 1895 by British engineer John Pennycuick.
On 18 February 2010, the Supreme Court decided to constitute a five-member empowered committee consisting three judges and two technical experts to inspect and study all the issues of Mullaperiyar Dam and seek a report from it within six months.
