There are glimmers of a brooding and icky horror epic scattered throughout the film, particularly in its surprisingly romantic, matte-painting-esque backdrops and impressionistic vampire's-point-of-view shots.

Oct 10, 2014 · Dracula Untold is an action film whose story showcases love, loss, and sacrifice. If that sounds like it has been done before, it has; though everything is put together well, and first-time feature director Gary Shore demonstrates a surprisingly sure hand at the helm.
[Dracula Untold] gives us a nonsensical picture of a tortured hero, forced by nobility into his life of mutilation. Even with stellar performances, it is a story that was better off Untold.
Starring Luke Evans as Vlad & Sarah Gadon as his wife Mirena, Dracula Untold tells the story of how Vlad both saved his people from the invading Turks but killed them minus his son by taking the Dark Powers to become Dracula.
