Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III (born January 7, 1979), known professionally as Aloe Blacc (/ ˈ æ l oʊ ˈ b l æ k / ⓘ), is an American singer and rapper. He is best known for his guest performance on Avicii 's 2013 single " Wake Me Up ", which peaked the charts in 22 countries. including Australia and the United Kingdom .
Aloe Blacc, born to Panamanian immigrants, was raised in California's Orange County. He absorbed styles such as cumbia, merengue, and salsa in his household, and eventually hip-hop in his environment. While in elementary school, he began playing trumpet and started writing rhymes.
