Algoma District is a district and census division in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario . The name was created by an American ethnologist, Henry Rowe Schoolcraft (1793–1864), who was appointed Indian agent to the Ojibwe in Sault Ste. Marie region in 1822.

Algoma is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area . History[edit] The Ahnapee settlement, which eventually became known as Algoma, was founded in 1834 by Joseph McCormick of Manitowoc.

Aug 7, 2023 · Algoma is a town of about 3,000 people right on the shores of Lake Michigan, about forty miles east of Green Bay and twenty miles south of Sturgeon Bay in Door County. In many ways, Algoma is still a traditional rust belt town. Agriculture and manufacturing are the backbone of this place.
