The MMRDA Mumbai Monorail is a monorail line in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, built as part of a major expansion of public transport in the city. The project is operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The 20 km long corridor from Chembur – Wadala - Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk is not only Mumbai's but India's first Monorail project. MMRDA appointed M/s. RITES as a consultant for preparation of Techno-Economic feasibility report as well as providing assistance in Bid process management.
Mumbai Monorail will open to the public on 2 February 2021 and will be India’s first monorail system. Each train would have 4 carriages and carry up to 560 commuters. In the first phase, 8.8 km of Line 1 would be operational between Chembur and Wadala.
