  6. Oct 8, 2018 · I think you're right. "blue" can mean emotionally sad and/or depressed. To paint the town red is an idiom meaning to go out to different places in a town and have a good time. So blue here plays off that idiom to give an opposite result.

  9. Dec 21, 2013 · The phrase "in the blue" has no idiomatic meaning. It could only have meaning in the context of a complete sentence. But there are two things "be in the blue" doesn't mean: 1. To be depressed. 2. To be in credit. I perfectly understand that "in the blue" doesn't mean to be in credit….
