Google Maps offers two views for walking navigation: the 2D map and Live View. With Live View, you get directions placed in the real world and on a mini map at the bottom of your screen. Try viewing the map in a satellite or terrain mode on you phone while online. It will cache the images of that area you are trying to hike at. Than you will be able to see the map in satellite mode while offline but it will only show you what you have viewed while you were online. make sure you zoom in as much as you need to.

To zoom in or out, scroll with your mouse or two-finger zoom with a touchpad. You can also use + and - below the compass. To position your Street View north, go to the bottom right-hand corner and click the compass. To jump between streets, go to the 'Back to Map' window in the bottom left and click the blue highlighted routes.

To report an image quality issue or request blurring for Street View imagery: On your computer, open Google Earth. Click a place or search for a location. At the bottom, click Pegman . Select a highlighted area. At the bottom left, click Report a problem. Fill out the form and click Submit.
