Zheng He (also romanized Cheng Ho; 1371–1433/1435) was a Chinese admiral, explorer, diplomat, and bureaucrat during the early Ming dynasty (1368–1644). He is often regarded as the greatest admiral in Chinese history.

Zheng He was a Chinese explorer who lead seven great voyages on behalf of the Chinese emperor. These voyages traveled through the South China Sea, Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, and along the east coast of Africa. His seven total voyages were diplomatic, military, and trading ventures, and lasted from 1405 – 1433.

Zheng He’s first voyage establishes diplomatic relations with rulers in what is now southern Vietnam, Thailand, the Malaysian port city of Melaka, the Indonesian island of Java, modern-day Kozhikode on the Malabar Coast of India, and Sri Lanka.
