  1. Jun 13, 2011 · Prisoner was what it was called in Australia, hence the credits. The Cell Block H suffix was added here to differentiate it from the 1960s cult show. I've met 5 of the cast over the last 2 years , at the 2010 and 2011 memorabilia conventions. In 2009 I met Val Lehman , Gerard Maguire and Fiona Spence.

  2. Mar 16, 2014 · Val Lehman (Bea), at least, observed this and (like Bea) even apparently planted a false story to see if it got back to the producers - uncovering the snitch. I think there was a bit of general hostility between the two on the set. Then again I think it is safe to say there were many 'big' personalities in the Prisoner cast.

  3. Aug 4, 2019 · Wentworth fans may be interested in watching the Australian version of Family Fortunes game show, "Family Feud" with Wentworth cast members vs Prisoner Cell Block H cast members. It was 100000% certain. Val Lehman was asked several times to return to Prisoner but she point blank refused.

  4. Nov 20, 2023 · One actress (Val Lehman) who played Bea Smith had it written into her contract that she would be paid for future distribution of her episodes (Video, DVD etc), whether this includes streaming is anyone's guess. Also, it's been said that the actors get paid on the 3rd screening of Prisoner. ITV and C5 being the first 2 screenings.

  5. I've heard before that Val Lehman (Bea Smith, Prisoner) was at one point rumoured to play Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders, but it never came to anything.

  6. Jun 1, 2024 · @simey Even worse than most of those mentioned from that late 300s period was Maggie May Kennedy. Further to your observation about Val Lehman possibly quitting because the quality has dropped, I’m sure there was a rumour once that Val refused to entertain the ridiculous Lainie Dobson and Alan ‘Ellen’ Farmer storyline, so requested that Bea was briefly written out while this nonsense took place.

  7. Nov 5, 2014 · * Val Lehman, Sheila Florance, Colette Mann, Betty Bobbitt, Jane Clifton, Gerard Maguire and Patsy King all took part in a special Prisoner concert filmed at Pentridge men’s prison. * Coral Drouyn took over from Denise Morgan as the head writer on the show in 1981 and immediately began to make her own mark on the show with free creative rein.

  8. Feb 24, 2020 · They did actually film some scenes that featured Val Lehman, Fiona Spence and Colette Mann (Bea, Vera, Doreen) as background characters, which would have aired had the series ended. However, with the show being renewed, they had to reshoot some extra scenes and the scenes including that trio didn't feature after all.

  9. Feb 28, 2020 · 1984 is when all stopped returning. Helen Smart, Margo Gaffney, Marie Winter, Phyllis Hunt, Doreen Burns and Mrs Davo. I loved Marie Winters final appearance hanging off the helicopter. That could not be topped as an exit.

  10. Sep 24, 2011 · I don't get why Val Lehman is hoping for a role in the remake. She left the original when she could have earned an absolute fortune if she'd stayed until the end. Unless she got greedy back then perhaps. I wonder if any of the five major channels would be interested in buying this when the time comes to selling to other countries? I hope so.
