Feb 23, 2023 · With 91 octane and 9.3:1 we can run 36 to 38 degrees total timing all in by 3,000 RPM. Higher the compression, the less timing can be applied with today's pump gas. If I were running a stock engine with the original 10.25 (10.75 claimed) compression I'd also probably be limiting total timing to 28°.

Mar 28, 2009 · the 400 also had better heads, i.e. better valve angle, bigger ports, more flow, bigger valves, screw in studs, guide plates, better combustion chamber. 400 was 1967-up. 389 was 1959-66. if you want to keep the OEM look but upgrade, bore the 389 to 400 CID. have screwed in studs installed the heads.

Jan 26, 2024 · pontiac 400 specs. i have been doing a little research. I Have got a 400 with a date code from late 73 in my 71 T37. I know of two major upgrades I need to make to make it come alive. performance is not what it should be. one will be going from a TH350 to a tremec TKX along with a gear set change.
