Longyearbyen ( Urban East Norwegian: [ˈlɔ̀ŋjɛrˌbyːən], [1] locally [ˈlɔ̀ŋjɑrˌbyːən], "Longyear Town") is the world's northernmost settlement with a population greater than 1,000, and the largest inhabited area of Svalbard, Norway.
