His voice is relatively light and clear sounding in its upper register, often providing the higher backing vocals to Dave Gahan's lower placed leading vocals. In spite of this, Martin is not a particularly high placed singer.

Also, the Clean demo is frighteningly rich and controlled down well through E2, where many baritones, including Dave Gahan in the studio version (which is whole tone higher), struggle for clarity.

Nov 24, 2021 · Dave Mustaine for either a very strong C tier or a very low B tier. Mark Knopfler for B tier. He has some very strong low notes, but usually interspersed with sung-spoken passages. Paul Robeson for A Tier. Thicc af lows, but he sang everything with pretty much the same larynx-to-the-floor tone, and big, hefty delivery.
