North Eastern Hill University, popularly known as NEHU, is a public central university in Shillong, Meghalaya. Established in 1973, NEHU has two campuses, one at Mawkynroh-Umshing, Shillong, and another at Chasingre, Tura.

History. The North-Eastern Hill University Act (24 of 1973) passed by both Houses of Parliament received the assent of the President of India on May 26th, 1973. It was published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) on May 26th, 1973 together with the First Schedule of the Act incorporating the Statutes of the University.

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a Central University established on 19 July 1973 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The university is in the suburb of Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, India. The university has two campuses, in Shillong and Tura. Both campuses are in Meghalaya state.

North Eastern Hill University offers nine courses at UG level which include BA, B.Sc, BA LLB (Hons) as its flagship programmes. The university also provides the option of distance learning for Certificate, Diploma and B.Ed (Special Education) courses. Note- 5 year BA LLB (Honors) course fee – INR 20,650/ Eligibility Criteria.
