Nirma University is a statutory University under a special Act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly and also recognized by University Grant commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of UGC act. Institute of Technology is a constituent institute of the Nirma University. For constituent institute of a university, AICTE approval is not required.

A total 15% of supernumerary seats in each programme, being conducted at the constituent institutes of Nirma University, is available for admission to international students under the various categories, such as Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries and South East Asia (CIWGC-SEA), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals (FN); out of which one-third, i.e., 5% seats are earmarked for CIWGC-SEA category, while 10% seats are for the OCI/FN category.
