Michael David Watt is an American bassist, vocalist and songwriter. He co-founded and played bass guitar for the rock bands Minutemen (1980–1985), Dos (1985–present), and Firehose (1986–1994). Mike Watt was raised in San Pedro, California, where he created the legendary punk rock band, Minutemen, with D. Boon and George Hurley in 1980. The trio went on to release 11 albums in less than six years and toured maniacally, but then the tragic death of Boon in late December of 1985 caused their abrupt demise.

His first band, Minutemen, blended punk with jazz and funk, but ended with the death of its frontman D. Boon in a car accident in 1985.
