Sep 15, 2023 · Cold Mountain may not have been a huge Oscar-night juggernaut, but the film remains an entertaining Civil War epic, filled with good performances, and gorgeously shot by Oscar-nominee John Seale. Unfortunately, at least according to one expert, the film is not as accurate as it could be in its depiction of the horrors of the Civil War.
"Cold Mountain" tells the story of a wounded Confederate soldier named Inman (Jude Law) who struggles on a perilous journey to get back home to Cold Mountain, North Carolina, as well as to Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman), the woman he left behind before going off to fight in the Civil War.
Cold Mountain is a 1997 historical novel by Charles Frazier which won the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction. It tells the story of W. P. Inman, a wounded deserter from the Confederate army near the end of the American Civil War who walks for months to return to Ada Monroe, the love of his life; the story shares several similarities with Homer 's Odyssey .
