Flicker Alley is proud to present a pair of new restorations by documentary filmmaker Herbert Kline from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art. Crisis: A Film of “The Nazi Way” and Lights Out in Europe, both previously unavailable, now beautifully restored by MoMA and available in a brand-new Blu-ray Disc edition.
Herbert Kline 1909-1999, Kline directed the photography for Heart of Spain, 1937, about the Spanish Civil War, with Geza Karpathy a soviet still photographer. Klein, who had been an editor with Leo Hurwitz of New Theater magazine and also a member of the Workers Film and Photo League, went to Europe and then to embattled Spain with an adventurer’s spirit in 1936.

Herbert George Klein (April 1, 1918 – July 2, 2009), also called Herb Klein, was best known as United States President Richard Nixon's Executive Branch Communications Director. Klein also served as Press Secretary for three of Nixon's campaigns and editor of the Copley Newspapers in San Diego before and after his time in the White House.
