Aug 14, 2022 · Several personnel were killed. While Governor Ghansara Singh was arrested, Col Majid was taken as a prisoner. Skardu was the tehsil headquarters of Baltistan and an important post between Gilgit and Leh. Sher Jung Thapa was assigned to lead the remaining 6th Infantry at Skardu. He was also promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
Lieutenant Colonel Sher Jung Thapa He was born on 18 June, 1908 at Abbotabad in what is now Pakistan. His father and grandfather had been distinguished soldiers. He received his education at Dharamshala. As a young lad, he was a fine sportsman, in particular hockey. The college hockey team participated in all the local tournaments.
