Maqbool is a critically acclaimed 2003 Indian criminal drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film is partially inspired on Shakespeare's play Macbeth and is set in Mumbai, India's underbelly. The plot centres around Irrfan Khan's character Maqbool, who is a henchman for a prominent underworld don named Jahangir Khan, played by Pankaj Kapur. Maqbool falls in love with Jahangir Khan's mistress, Nimmi (Tabu), and the two plot to assassinate him and take over his empire.
But Maqbool is in love with Nimmi (Tabu), Jahangir's mistress, who convinces him to be ambitious and take over the empire. After maneuvering potential rivals out of the way, Maqbool betrays Jahangir, murdering him in his own bed. However, it isn't long before both Maqbool and Nimmi are haunted by the ghosts of their treacherous deeds.
