The plot centres around Irrfan Khan's character Maqbool, who is a henchman for a prominent underworld don named Jahangir Khan, played by Pankaj Kapur. Maqbool falls in love with Jahangir Khan's mistress, Nimmi (Tabu), and the two plot to assassinate him and take over his empire.
