WELCOME TO BHARATHIAR UNIVERSITY. The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February 1982 under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982).

Named after Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, the university was established in February 1982 under the provision of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982) and was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985.
Bharathiar University is a public university located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The UGC- recognised university was established in 1982. NAAC accredited Bharathiar University with a grade ‘A++’. It ranks 21st among the top universities in India under NIRF University Ranking 2023.
The university is named after the Indian activist journalist and poet, Subramania Bharathiar. He was a leading figure in the nationalist period and a pioneer of the modern Tamil poetry style. The university is located 15 kilometres from Coimbatore, a major city in the state of Tamil Nadu, South India.
