  4. At a glance. Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of death from infectious disease worldwide, with an estimated 10 million new cases in 2019. Current approaches to preventing, diagnosing, and treating TB are inadequate. Drug-resistant strains of TB have also emerged, creating a growing sense of urgency to control the spread of the disease.
