O.P. Nayyar. Composer. 16 January 1926 to 28 January 2007. The writer of some of the most popular songs in Hindi films during the 1950s and 60s, Nayyar scored his first hit with Aar Paar (1954), swiftly followed by Mr & Mrs '55 (1955) and C.I.D. (1956). He forged productive working relationships with Asha Bhosle, Guru Dutt and Mohammed Rafi.

A casual follower of Bollywood music will be surprised to know that he never used ‘Lata Mangeskar, the ‘Nightingale of India’, to sing his songs even once in his entire illustrious career and still could win the hearts of millions with his melodious compositions.
However, he continued to be OP Nayyar's assistant until the end. He died in 1994. OP Nayyar is known to have often used a 70 piece orchestra for many of his compositions. 30 musicians in a song were common and then there were times when only 4 were used to create the same magic, when required.
