Hanns Eisler var en tysk komponist, elev af Arnold Schönberg. Hanns Eislers kommunistiske overbevisning fik ham i 1926 til at bryde med Schönberg og vende sig fra autonom kunstmusik til socialistisk funktionsmusik: arbejdersange, kantater, film- og teatermusik, især til tekster af Bertolt Brecht, med hvem han begyndte et varigt samarbejde i 1929.
