In 2007, Indian Railways decided to set up it’s third railway passenger coaches manufacturing unit in Lalganj, distt Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Foundation stone was laid in 2007 and construction work started in 2009. In Dec 2015, it was named as Modern Coach Factory.

MCF will become 1st Rail factory to meet Zero-Energy Mega Factory standards by 2020-21. Solar energy capacity will be raised from 3 MW to 10 MW which will help achieve ‘Energy Neutral’ standards for the unit and the township. MCF has boosted local economy of Raebareli.
