The Victoria Memorial was built between 1906 and 1921 by the British government as a tribute to Queen Victoria, who was the Empress of India from 1876 to 1901. The idea of the memorial was proposed by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India, who wanted to create a grand building with a museum and gardens.
In late evenings, the multi-coloured musical fountains in the garden make for a pretty sight. The well-manicured gardens are open on all days from 5:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Art lovers should check out the temporary exhibition section for interesting international exhibits. There is an entry fee of INR 20 for Indians and INR 200 for foreigners.
