Pankaja Munde’s loss is significant as the seat has been synonymous with her family since 2009 when her father Gopinathrao Munde defeated the NCP’s Ramesh Adaska. In the 2019 general elections, her sister Pritam Munde won this seat defeating Sonwane by a margin of 1,68,368 votes, which was 12.45 per cent of the total votes cast for the seat.
