Jun 25, 2016 · Lady Ughtred (c.1530-1534) In January 1531, Elizabeth married Sir Anthony Ughtred, her first husband. They had a son, Henry (c. 1533) and a daughter born after Sir Anthony died in the fall or winter of 1534. She was named Margery (c.1535). It is unclear what happened to her children, Henry and Margery after Sir Anthony died.

In 1537, although her sister Jane had by then married the King, it seems the widowed Elizabeth was feeling the pinch, and wrote to Thomas Cromwell asking for a special price on a dissolved monastery.
In 1582 one of his vessels, the Ughtred or Bear, valued at £6,035, acted as flagship to Fenton’s unsuccessful voyage, and was re-christened the Leicester, presumably in compliment to the Earl, the principal shareholder in the adventure. She sailed with Drake in 1585-6, and was one of his west-country squadron against the Armada, later possibly taking part in Cavendish’s last voyage.
