Sydney Irwin Pollack was born on July 1, 1934, in Lafayette, Indiana. After high school, he moved to New York, New York, where he took acting classes with Sanford Meisner and later taught. In 1955 he appeared on Broadway, and the following year he began acting on television in series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Twilight Zone .
