When I was a student at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), I tried hard to meet R.D. Burman, but he passed away before I could. He was at his peak in the 1970s and got a lot of love, but though he was making great music even in the ’90s, his songs didn’t become big hits. I did sometimes feel that he only got his real due after he was gone.
