In May 2006, it was declared a College with Potential for Excellence by the UGC. From July 2006, it became an Autonomous College (the first in West Bengal). In 2011, NAAC assessed St. Xavier’s as an Autonomous College with a CGPA of 3.53 on a scale of 4. In 2012, the UGC team visited the college. The team granted the renewal of Autonomy.

Selected candidates in the third merit list must submit the admission form by June 29, 2024. The last date for fee payment is June 30, 2024. Interviews against the third merit list for BA admissions will be held on June 29, 2024.
