Nov 16, 2018 · Morosco's father, Joel Bishop, was a Guilford, Conn., merchant of old Mayflower stock. His son Walter left home at 15 to join a circus and took the name of Walter Melville. Finding that other acrobats bore the name of Melville he changed to that of Walter Morosco and had the name copyrighted.
